Pick the file you want. It saves to your phone or computer like any normal download.

Why Twitter GIFs are hard to save

When someone posts a GIF on X, X converts it into a short, silent MP4 video that loops. That keeps it small and smooth, but it also means there is no "Save GIF" option: long-pressing gives you nothing or a still image. That is why so many people ask how to save GIFs from Twitter.

How do I save a GIF from Twitter?

Copy the link of the post (Share → Copy link), paste it above and tap the MP4 (GIF, no sound) button. SLMtik downloads the animation in the best quality X stores. It is the same file X plays in the timeline, so nothing is lost.

MP4 or a real .gif file?

The file you get is an MP4 — the format X itself uses for GIFs. For most uses that is better: it is up to ten times smaller than a .gif, looks sharper, and plays in WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage, PowerPoint and every gallery app. Most messaging apps even show short silent MP4s as looping GIFs.

Saving Twitter GIFs on iPhone, Android and PC

  • iPhone: in Safari the MP4 goes to Files → Downloads. Open it and tap Share → Save Video to keep it in Photos; tap the Live/Loop options in Photos if you want it to repeat.
  • Android: the MP4 appears in your gallery. Many keyboards (Gboard, Samsung) can send it as a GIF.
  • PC and Mac: the file goes to Downloads and loops in any video player set to repeat.

Only GIFs in public posts can be saved. If the post also has photos or a normal video, each file gets its own button.

Use it fairly

Save posts you made yourself, or that the creator lets you keep, for personal viewing. Re-posting someone else's video or photo — even with credit — needs their permission, and each platform's own terms apply to what you save. Creators who want a post blocked from SLMtik can use our copyright page.

Why is the Twitter GIF an MP4?

X turns every uploaded GIF into a short silent MP4. SLMtik gives you that original file, which is smaller and sharper than a .gif.

How do I save Twitter GIFs on iPhone?
