How to download Twitter videos on iPhone

Saving a video from X to your iPhone takes about twenty seconds in Safari — no app, no Shortcut and no X Premium. Here is every step.

The X app has no download button for most people, and screen recording gives you a blurry video with buttons on top. The clean way is to save the original MP4 with a web tool in Safari, then move it into the Photos app.

Step 1: copy the link of the post

Open the post with the video in the X app. Tap the Share icon (the arrow pointing up) under the post and choose Copy link. The link looks like x.com/name/status/123…. If you see a t.co link somewhere, open it first and copy the full x.com address instead.

Step 2: paste it on SLMtik in Safari

Open Safari and go to the Twitter video downloader. Tap the box and choose Paste. SLMtik recognises X automatically and shows the available files after a few seconds.

Step 3: download the MP4

Tap the best MP4 button (1080p or 720p). Safari asks whether you want to download the file — tap Download. A small arrow appears in the address bar while it saves.

Step 4: save it to your camera roll

Safari puts downloads in the Files app, folder Downloads. Open the video there, tap the Share button and choose Save Video. Now it is in Photos, ready to watch offline, trim or send.

Do I need a Twitter video downloader shortcut?

No. Shortcuts that download X videos break whenever X changes something, and many ask for broad permissions. A website needs no installation and keeps working in plain Safari. The same steps work on iPad.

Without X Premium

X offers downloads to some Premium subscribers, only on posts where the author allows it. SLMtik works for any public post without Premium. Private (protected) accounts cannot be saved by anyone, and that is how it should be.

Photos, GIFs and audio

For pictures, use the Twitter photo downloader — it saves the full-size JPGs. GIFs come out as silent looping MP4s with the GIF downloader, and the Twitter to MP3 page saves just the sound.

Tools used in this guide

  • Twitter to MP3 converter — Turn the sound of any public X (Twitter) video into an MP3 — speeches, interviews, music clips and voice notes. Free, online and without an app.
