Quick answer: First choose 720p instead of 1080p when downloading, which often halves the size. If it is still too big, trim it and re-export at a lower bitrate with a free editor like CapCut or HandBrake.
1. Download a smaller version
The easiest win: when SLMtik shows quality options, pick 720p or SD. On a phone screen, 720p looks almost identical to 1080p but is much smaller.
2. Trim it
Size grows with length. Cutting a 60-second clip to the 20 seconds you need saves two thirds. iPhone Photos (Edit → drag the ends) and Android Gallery both trim without extra apps.
3. Re-export at a lower bitrate
- CapCut (phone or web): Export → set 720p and a lower frame rate, such as 30 fps.
- HandBrake (Windows, Mac, Linux, free): choose the "Fast 720p30" preset. For tiny files, try "Very Fast 480p30".
- iPhone: Settings → Camera does not affect existing videos, so use an editor to export.
What actually changes the size
| Setting | Effect on size |
|---|---|
| Length | Biggest effect: half the length, half the size |
| Bitrate | Directly controls size; lower = smaller and softer |
| Resolution | 1080p → 720p usually cuts size a lot |
| Frame rate | 60 → 30 fps saves a bit on fast motion |
| Audio | Small; keep 128 kbps AAC |
Avoid repeated exports
Each export loses some quality. Always work from the original download, not from a copy you already compressed.
Do you need the video at all?
For speeches, podcasts and music, the MP3 is a fraction of the video's size.
