Quick answer: In TikTok go to Settings and privacy → Account → Download your data, choose your format and request the file. When the archive is ready, download and unzip it. If it lists links instead of files, paste each link into SLMtik.
SLMtik is perfect for a few videos at a time. For a full backup of your whole account — videos, captions, comments, messages and profile info — TikTok offers an official export. It is free and it is the safest way to keep your work if you ever lose access to your account.
Step 1: Request your data
- Open TikTok and go to your profile.
- Tap the menu (☰) → Settings and privacy → Account → Download your data.
- Choose All data or select specific categories, including Posts.
- Pick TXT (easy to read) or JSON (for tools and developers) and tap Request data.
Step 2: Wait for the file
TikTok prepares the archive in the background. It usually takes a few hours and can take a few days for large accounts. You will see it under the Download data tab, where it stays available for a few days.
Step 3: Download and unzip
Download the ZIP file, preferably on a computer with enough space. Unzip it and look for the posts section. Depending on the version, you get the video files themselves or a list of links to each of your videos.
If you get links instead of files
Some exports list your videos as links. Open the list, and for each video you want, paste the link into SLMtik to save a clean MP4. For your own account this is quick and keeps full quality.
Where to keep your backup
- An external drive or a second computer.
- A cloud folder such as Google Drive, iCloud Drive or OneDrive.
- Ideally both — one copy at home and one in the cloud.
What else is in the export
The archive also includes your comments, likes, follower list, direct messages and login history. That is useful if you are auditing your account security, and it is also personal information — store it safely and do not share the ZIP.
Do it regularly
If TikTok is part of your work, request a fresh export every few months. Accounts get hacked, banned by mistake, or lost with an old phone number; a recent backup makes any of those a small problem instead of a disaster.
